Candidates can avail the benefit limited to the first improvement examination mark (s) alone. Candidates should not have completed the age indicated below on the first day of July of the admission year. No relaxation of age is permissible on any ground.

VETERINARY COLLEGE AND RESEARCH INSTITUTE

NAMAKKAL – 637 001.

    • The Institute at Namakkal functioning with the objective of Veterinary Education, Research and Extension.

Clinics:

    • Separate clinics for large and small animals.

    • A Casualty section is functioning for 24 hours.

    • An X-ray unit has been established.

Avian Disease Diagnostic Laboratory:

    • This caters to the need of poultry farmers in quick diagnosis of the diseases of poultry using  latest equipment's.

Feed Analytical and Quality Control Laboratory:

    • This has been equipped with latest instruments for proximate principle analysis.

    • Analysis are chargeable.

    • Communicating analytical results within 24-28 hours.

Extension:

    • The farmers are given training to use the latest technology on farm practices.

    • Technical Advisory Committee on poultry is functioning to discuss the problem of poultry farmers and to give expert suggestion to solve the problems.

    • Farm school on All India Radio with contact classes, exhibition, training, Mass contact Programmes, infertility camps and Livestock shows are also conducted.

FISHERIES COLLEGE & RESEARCH INSTITUTE TUTICORIN – 628 008.

1. TRYSEM (Training of Rural Youth for Self Employment)

The TRYSEM Programme is imparted in 3 trades viz:

    1. Fish Processing

    2. Coastal Aquaculture and

    3. Inland Aquaculture

    • The venue of the Programme is Fisheries College & Research Institute, Tuticorin.

    • The participants are fisher folk living in Southern Coastal districts of Ramanathapuram, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari.

    • The participants are selected by a panel of experts.

    • The duration of the Programme is 90 days.

    • Selected participants are paid a sum of Rs.300/- as stipend per month.

2. Short Term Training Programme

The following short term Programmes are conducted:

    1. Composite fish culture

    2. Freshwater prawn farming

    3. Ornamental fish culture

    4. Preparation of value added fishery products

    • The venue of the Programme is Fisheries College & Research Institute, Tuticorin.

    • The participants are farmesrs, fishermen, fisherwomen and entrepreneurs.

    • The participants are selected by a panel of experts.

    • The duration of the Programme is 5 days.

    • The fee for the training is Rs.300/- drawn as DD in favour of Dean, Fisheries College and Research Institute, Tuticorin.

DIRECTORATE OF CLINICS

TAMILNADU VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCES UNIVERSITY 

He Madras Veterinary College Hospital is located in the Madras Veterinary College, Vepery,    Chennai-600 007. The hospital is a veterinary teaching hospital maintained by the Directorate of Clinics, TamilNadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University.

The hospital is equipped with various equipments for the treatment of small/large animals and also for diagnosing the diseases. Treatment is given to the animals brought to the hospital. Registration of the small/large animals along with the name, address of the owners and particulars of the animals are being done in reception counter.

For the Small animals viz., dog, cat etc, a sum of Rs.10/- (Rupees Ten Only) is collected as registration fees which is valid for a period of seven days. If the same animals is brought for treatment on the eighth day or on subsequent days, another Rs. 10/- will be collected as Renewal Fees. Treatment including medicine are given at free of cost.

Separate charges are collected X-ray and operations at the rates fixed by the TamilNadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. The rate details can be had from the receptionist of the clinics Department or from the Professor and Head, Department of Clinics, Madras Veterinary College.

The charges for vaccination to the animals for infectious diseases are collected as per the rates fixed by the TamilNadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. No Registration charges or treatment charges collected for the large animals  Mobile Veterinary Unit of this University visits certain identified places in the specified days and treatment is given to small/large animals which are brought to the mobile unit. Registration charges is collected for small animals like cat, dog etc.

Resident Veterinary Services Section

Casualty Unit Treatment is given round the clock in the Resident Veterinary Services Section, Madras Veterinary College except on outpatient hours.

Inpatient Ward

Separate In patient ward facilities are available for small/large animals. Advance amount is being collected from the owners of the small animals for the preparation and distribution of diet such as prepared food, bread, egg, milk to the small animals and the balance amount if any will be refunded to the owner at the time of discharge.

Large animal if admitted in the hospital, one person authorized by the owner of animal is permitted to stay with the animal for feeding and watering of the sick animals. Feed should be provided by the owners of the animals. The Owner should sign in the agreement form while admitting the animals in the hospital.

Details of treatment facilities, admission in the IP ward and discharge can be had from the professor and Head, Department of Clinics, Madras Veterinary College/Veterinary College and Research Institute, Namakkal.

The owners of the animals are requested to co-operate with the students/ trainees for their practical in giving treatment to the animals. The following expert departments are available in Madras Veterinary College for the diagnosis and treatment of animals.

    1. Department of Clinical Medicine and Therapeutics

    2. Department of Surgery

    3. Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The following modern equipments are used in treating and diagnosing the diseases of the sick animals.

Electrocardiograph (ECG)

Electroencephalograph (EEG)

Endoscopies

Ophthalmoscope

Ultrasonograph

Haemodialysis etc.

Arrangements have been made for registering the particulars of the animals through computer. A pharmacy is functioning for the supply of medicine at free of cost to the sick animals.

CENTRE FOR ANIMAL HEALTH STUDIES

MADHAVARAM, CHENNAI – 600 051. 

The following constituent units are functioning under the control of Directorate of Centre for Animal Health Studies. The contact person is the Director, Centre for Animal Health Studies, Madhavaram, Chennai – 600 051. 

Central University Laboratory: 

    • The Laboratory is functioning as a premier diagnostic laboratory for the state to diagnosis the diseases of livestock and poultry.

Leptospirosis Laboratory:

    • This unit was established with the objectives of helping in the diagnosis of Leptospirosis both in man and animals.

    • Laboratory examinations are chargeable.

Peripheral Veterinary Hospital:

    • To provide service to the livestock and pet owners in the periphery of the city.

University Training and Research Centre:

    • The main objectives of these centres are to promote livestock, poultry development and training.

    • These centres provide training and advice for health cover in case of endemic and emerging diseases

DIRECTORATE OF EXTENSION EDUCATION,

MADHAVARAM, CHENNAI- 600 051.

The following constituent units are functioning under the control of Directorate of Extension Education. 

Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK):

    • It provides technical know-how in the field of Agricultural/livestock/poultry, Home science, Fisheries etc

    • Short term and long duration training Programmes are organized.

    • It provides non-formal education by way of field trips, farm visits, farmers fair's radio talks.

    • Organizes demonstrations on scientific practices to convince the farmers.

    • A stipend of Rs.12/- per day is paid to the trainees.

Farmers Training Centre:

    • The farmers Training Centre caters mainly to the livestock and poultry farmers.

    • The contact person is Prof & Head, concerned Farmers Training Centre.

    • It disseminates latest technical know-how on livestock and poultry farming.

    • It promotes employment generation in the field of livestock and poultry.

    • School drop outs are given special emphasis during the selection of trainees.

Institute of Food and Dairy Technology:

    • It organizes training Programmes for farmers, housewives, small entrepreneurs and weaker section of the society in the field of dairy and food processing.

    • Offers consultancy services for establishment of dairy plants, milk product unit etc. Free of cost.

    • It provides advisory service to farmers and public in the field of dairying and food processing.
