Citizen's Charter Department of Social Welfare and Nutritious Meal Programme Department TAMIL NADU INTEGRATED NUTRITION PROJECT
Tamilnadu integrated Nutrition Project is the most success nutrition intervention in the world as observed by the World Bank. The unique project with the overall objective of improving the Maternal a child Health and Nutrition and the total development of children und 5+ years is implemented in 19 districts covering 318 blocks and 195 centres. The 19 districts are: 1. Madurai 2. Dindigul 3. Vellore 4. Tiruvannamalai 5. Ramanathapuram 6. Virudhunagar 7. Sivagangai 8. Tirunelveli 9. Tuticorin 10. Salem 11. Erode 12. Dharmapuri 13. Cuddalore 14. Villupuram 15. Coimbatore 16. Trichy 17. Thanjavur 18. Nagapattinam 19. Kanyakumari At District Level, there are District Project Nutrition Officers and at block level, there are Community Nutrition Instructresses and Community Nutrition Supervisors to implement the Project. The Community Nutrition Centres are looked after by Community Nutrition Workers and Helpers. Women alone are recruited as field workers in this project. PACKAGE OF SERVICES GIVEN: Target Group I : Pregnant, Nursing Mothers and Neonates II : Children under 36 months. III : 3-6 years children TARGET GROUP I : Pregnant, Nursing Mothers and Neonates: 1. Early registration of pregnant mothers and administration of T.T. Immunization and provision of health checkup. 2. Weighing of mothers every month from the date of registration for growth monitoring the pregnancy weight. 3. Iron supplementation during the course of pregnancy. 4. Providing supplementary food to the needy pregnant mothers from 6th month onwards and up to 6th month after delivery. 5. Provision of health, education 6. Administering BCG vaccine 7. Referral of physically handicapped neonates. II. TARGET GROUP II: Services rendered to < 36 months children: 1. Weighing and growth monitoring of children every month 2. Selective supplementary feeding 3. Administration of Vitamin A for children in the age group of 6-36 months every six months. Iron supplement is also given. 4. Diarrhea management for children 6-36 months of age by supplying ORS 5. Treatment is also given for children affected by Acute Respiratory Infection. 6. Referral services for children who do not respond to supplementary feeding. III. TARGET GROUP III: Services rendered to children of 37-60 months in Child Welfare Centres: 1. Pre-school education 2. Weighing and growth monitoring of all children once in 3 months 3. Referral services for children chronically affected 4. Medical check up once in a year 5. Provision of noon meals *Noon meals is also provided to old age pensioners in the Noon Meal Centres. |
