Agencies
Any destitute abandoned or orphaned child, is put in the care and custody of recognised licensed agencies in India. Once a licensed institution receives a destitute, abandoned or orphaned child, they try to gather as much information as possible about the child. They open a separate file for the child mentioning all the details like name, age, sex where the child was found, details of the parents, if the child is surrendered etc. The agency will also carry out the thorough medical checkup of the child to find out if there are any medical problems. These details are put in the child's file and it is called Child Study Report.
Any parent desirous of adopting a child, can adopt through these recognised agencies only. Anybody else other than recognised agencies are not authorised to do adoption. Any adoption done by unrecognised agencies is unauthorised and illegal. In Tamil Nadu, the Government has recognised 22 agencies to do In-country adoption out of which 8 Agencies have been recognised to do Inter-country adoption also.
